This is our review of the Garmin Echomap UHD 93sv.
Garmin is a company with an excellent reputation. They are known for making some of the best GPS fish finders on the market, and their fish finders are no exception.
The Garmin Echomap UHD 93sv is an excellent multi-function display that will please even the most demanding fishermen.
We’ll run through this product in detail to make sure you know everything about it before you buy it! We will also provide answers to frequently asked questions and list what we consider the 3 best alternatives to the Garmin Echomap UHD 93sv fish finder.
Let’s get started!
Garmin Echomap UHD 93sv Overview
This 9″ touchscreen Chartplotter is part of the newly introduced UHD lineup in the Echomap family that was released in early 2020. The available transducer bundle gives this display the power of ClearVU, SideVu, and traditional CHIRP sonar.
We really like this fish finder combo and think it is a great option for avid fishermen and beginners. The touchscreen and readability in the sun are two of the main reasons why we think the Echomap UHD 93sv is one of the best fish finders available.
The GT56UHD-TM also has three different frequencies(455, 800, and 100 kHz) to make sure you are covered no matter what depth you may be fishing at.
A popular upgrade for Garmin displays is adding the easy-to-install Garmin Panoptix Livescope system. The Panoptix sonar technology provides real-time imagery below and around your boat with a maximum depth capability of up to 200′ which is a massive upgrade compared to traditional sonar data.
The built-in GPS in the Echomap UHD 93sv is a standard feature for MFD’s in this price range, so it’s no surprise to find this fish finder with it.
Having the GPS in this fish finder gives you more than just your location on a map, but also your boat’s speed and heading as well, so you can have an easier time navigating to your desired coordinates.
The Echomap UHD 93sv comes with integrated Navionics data LakeVu G3 maps, offering over 17,000 lakes for freshwater fishing. These freshwater maps are of tremendous value considering how expensive it is for mapping cards.
The QuickDraw contours feature from Garmin allows you to create your own maps with 1′ contours and add multi depth range shading. We love the Quickdraw feature because it differs from waypoints by allowing you to store points of interest for each individual map you create and also lets you share each map on the ActiveCaptain app.
Touch Screen and Key Pad
The touchscreen is one of the main upgrades from the Echomap Plus series. Having the keypad buttons next to the touchscreen is convenient and makes navigating throughout the menus easy and intuitive.
Nowadays, we all expect Wi-Fi and wireless connectivity to be included with our electronics. Well, Garmin stepped up with the Echomap UHD series adding Wi-Fi to make software updates, downloading maps, and connecting to your smartphone a breeze.
The free ActiveCaptain app allows Garmin users to connect with other boaters and fishermen. This app gives you access to vital information including marinas, waterside restaurants, hazards, and even up-to-date gas prices to help you plan your next trip accordingly. This app seamlessly connects to your chart plotter, so you can be in complete control whether you are on board or not.

What is the difference between Garmin Echomap UHD 93sv and the 92sv, 94sv,and 95sv?
The difference between the Echomap UHD 93sv and the other 9″ models in the UHD family is the preloaded maps. The Echomap UHD 93sv comes preloaded with Lake maps while the Echomap UHD 92sv comes preloaded with the Worldwide Basemap, the Echomap UHD 94sv comes with Bluechart G3(offshore) and the 95sv is preloaded with Canada’s lakes(Canada LakeVu G3).
What is the difference between Garmin Echomap UHD and Echomap plus?
The Garmin Echomap UHD series is the upgraded version of the Echomap plus. Garmin made significant upgrades to the Echomap series including an upgraded optional transducer bundle, touchscreen, improved sunlight viewing, and many other upgrades.
Another upgrade was adding the capability for pairing with the Garmin Panoptix Livescope System. Within the last couple of years, many marine electronics manufacturers have released real-time sonar recordings, and we think that the Livescope system is one of the best but comes with a hefty price tag for the upgrade.
One more notable upgrade to the Echomap fish finders is the ability to pair with Garmin’s Force Trolling Motor. You can now use your Echomap UHD to mark waypoints for the force trolling motor to navigate to.
What transducer comes with Garmin Echomap uhd 93sv?
The transducer that is included in the bundle package has been upgraded from the GT52HW-TM to the GT56UHD-TM. This upgrade in transducers adds a greater frequency of 1000 kHz to allow imaging at greater depths.
Does Garmin Echomap UHD show speed?
Yes, the Echomap UHD paired with the GT56UHD-TM transducer will display speed.
What is the newest Garmin Echomap?
The Garmin Echomap UHD series is the newest chart plotter, released by Garmin in early 2020.
How do I network my Garmin Echomap UHD?
The Garmin Echomap UHD 93sv can easily be networked using the Ethernet port. A Garmin network cable is provided with this display to use when connecting to another unit. The Garmin Network Expander along with additional cables are needed for connecting multiple Garmin products.
The Echomap UHD 93sv is compatible with the NMEA2000 network, which makes a connection to other electronics onboard a breeze.
How to Get Garmin Echomap UHD Software Updates?
Garmin Marine is constantly releasing software updates to maintain their device functionality, add features and compatibility with new products.
The software update only performs an operating system refresh and does not replace preloaded charts that come with this fish finder at purchase time.
There are a few options for updating including using the ActiveCaptain App which is what we recommend, or you can use a Micro SD card and download the update on a computer then transfer it over to your chart plotter.
Alternatives to Echomap UHD 93sv
Is Echomap UHD 93sv worth it?
Yes, we certainly think so.
The EchoMap UHD 93sv is loaded with features on a 9″ touchscreen at a very reasonable price. With a 1000kHz transducer included and the ability to add the Garmin Panoptix Livescope system, it is hard to argue against this fish finder. The ability to link to a Garmin Force Trolling Motor and the ActiveCaptain App makes this a great choice for the modern angler who is accustomed to connectivity coming standard.
The imaging on the Echomad UHD 93sv is not quite on the level of Humminbird MEGA Imaging, but if imaging is not at the top of your priority list, we recommend going with it. The Echomap UHD 93sv as it is an incredible value considering all the features it has to offer and backed up by great customer support from Garmin.
