I may be biased, but Minnesota is one of the best states for fishing. I mean, it’s not known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” for nothing. With its pristine waters, diverse fish species, and breathtaking natural landscapes, the state offers an unparalleled fishing experience. Here are my favorite fishing resorts in Minnesota for your next getaway!

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Fishing Resort
When selecting a fishing resort in Minnesota, it’s essential to consider several factors to ensure the best experience. I’ll share more about my experiences below!
- Location: Proximity to renowned fishing spots (obviously).
- Amenities: Look for features such as comfortable lodging, boat rentals, guided fishing tours, and fish-cleaning stations.
- Types of Fishing: Determine whether the resort supports your preferred fishing methods, such as ice fishing, fly fishing, or trolling.
- Family-Friendly Options: Check for additional activities like swimming, hiking, or kids’ programs to accommodate non-anglers.
Best Minnesota Fishing Resorts
Luckily for us Minnesotans, our state boasts a variety of fishing resorts, each offering unique experiences tailored to specific fishing needs and preferences. Whether you’re venturing north, central, or south, there’s something for everyone. Below, I’ll share my two favorites, plus a fan favorite!
Northern MN: Zippel Bay Resort
- Address: 6080 39th St. NW – Williams, MN 56686
My favorite fishing resort in Northern Minnesota is (without a doubt), Zippel Bay Resort. This resort is located on the famous Lake of the Woods and is the only resort on Zippel Bay.
They offer year-round accommodations. In the summer they offer cabins, camping and some trailer rentals as well. They have boats you can rent, places to dock your boat or charters you can book.
For the winter, many of these cabins are available, as well as a well-maintained Ice Road. They have a heated fish cleaning station, showers, and the famous Ice Bar!
Central MN: Trappers Landing

- Address: 1812 Merit Rd, Walker, MN, 56484
For Central Minnesota, I would recommend Trappers Landing. This is located on the southeastern side of Leech Lake.
This luxurious property has awesome lake house rentals, multitudes of amenities for all ages, and access to some of the best fishing for multiple species in Minnesota.
In the summer they offer boat rentals for any species you would like to target, places for the kids to swim as well as canoe or kayak rentals.
In the Winter they host an Ice road that is well-maintained and gets you to all those hot fishing spots. However, in the past few years with the poor ice, they have limited some access on their road to only people with season passes or people staying on the resort.
They have bait available on site and have a fish cleaning place in the marina. If you want to rent an Ice House they offer sleepers placed in the local hot spots that are already set up with bait. It’s truly a one-stop-shop!
Southern MN: Bug-Bee Hive Resort
- Address: 29659 Queen Bee Lane, Paynesville, MN 56362
I have never personally been but have had friends recommend Bug-Bee Hive Resort. This is located on Lake Koronis.
They offer year-round availability with summer boat rentals, plenty of swimming areas for the kids (indoor as well), and is close to the Twin Cities.
My buddies targeted crappies and had some great success. In the winter they have great access to snowmobile trails which can be a fun break from sitting in the Ice House.

- What to Pack: Essentials include weather-appropriate clothing, fishing gear, licenses, and personal items like sunscreen and bug spray.
- How to Book: Early reservations are recommended, especially during peak seasons. Many resorts offer online booking options for convenience.
